Urban Sensors is a unique hackathon designed to make use of new data platform created within the VaVeL project.
The hackathon will take place at Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science of Warsaw University of Technology, Koszykowa 75 Warsaw, Poland.
The objective of the hackathon is to promote the use of the VaVeL framework and Open Data to build innovative urban services, initiate new startups and extend services offered by cities and already existing enterprises.
During the event you will get a direct online access to data about current and past positions of every bus and every tram in the Warsaw, plus data about distribution of cell phones in different parts of the city.
Participants are going to take part in four mini workshops related to big data techniques, like flink, hive, spark and data visualization, like D3.

The hackathon is opened for data scientists, computer scientists, statisticians, data artists, and others obsessed with data.
Together with City of Warsaw, Orange Polska S.A. and Warsaw University of Technology we have prepared a quite interesting infrastructure and tools for playing with streams of data from urban sensors.
What can be created with such rich source of data?
Mobile applications, smart route planners, cool data visualizations and more.
